The Criminal Records and Identification Bureau (R&I) is the central repository in the State of Alaska which is responsible to maintain the Alaska criminal history record information including arrest records. The criminal justice agencies reports the criminal justice events like arresting reports, prosecutors report charges etc to the repository. The information maintained by R&I can only be released as approved by law.
The Alaska Public Records Act is designed to guarantee access to records of government bodies at all levels as a basic right of the general public. If the records are to be used in court case the request should be made in accordance with applicable court rules or it may be considered invalid. Exceptions to public records access include that are related to juveniles, medical and related public health or sealed records for any reason.
State records containing arrest information are submitted to the State of Alaska from each county and other criminal justice agencies. Arrest records are updated on the monthly bases. The state records are accessible to convictions dating before 1989 to today.
Obtaining the Arrest Record Information
Alaska arrest records information are accessible to the general public and Alaska law for public records does not outlaw who may ask for the public documents. The Alaska Administrative Code (AAC) defines the measures to obtain this information. Department of Public Safety of Alaska furnishes the requests for getting details on Alaska’s arrest records. - Any individual other than the subject of arrest record can obtain the information by submitting a form provided by the department. The form needs the subject of record to agree to release the criminal history information to a third party. The subject of record and supplicant both have to sign the form. The fully and correctly filled form can either be mailed or delivered by hand to the department. The applicant must incorporate a check or money order in the amount of $20 with the request from and send to the following mailing address:
- To get the fingerprints based information the subject of the record has to put forward a personal request along with ten-print set of fingerprints on a standard FBI applicant card to the department of public safety at the same address used for non-fingerprints form submission. Money order of $35 is also payable to the state of Alaska.
