The Delaware sex offender registry is maintained by State Bureau of Identification (SBI). The sex offender registry (SOR) is responsible for the registration, notification, and verification of sex offenders throughout the State of Delaware. SBI also updates the sex offenders’ information on the Delaware public sex offender registry. There are about 3,500 registered sex offenders in the State of Delaware. Under current law, the high-risk sex offenders must verify their address, place of employment and place of study every 90 days to the SBI department. The moderate-risk sex offenders must verify this information with SBI on a semi-annual basis. On the other hand low risk sex offender must verify this information once annually. All sex offenders in Delaware must update the registry within three days of any change in residence, employment or study.
It is mandatory for all the sex offenders, to appear in person at SBI in order to verify their registry information. The sex offender registry also manages public notification of registered sex offenders. These may include door-to-door notification, e-mail, flyers and posters. Additionally, all moderate- and high-risk offenders are placed on the Delaware sex offender public website.
Delaware Sex Offender Registration
All the sex offenders should complete a registration form and submit it to the Delaware sex offender registry at the State Bureau of Identification. The sex offenders are required to provide
Names and aliases ever used.
Date of birth.
Driver’s license or identification card issued by the state.
Phone numbers (home and cellular)
Social Security number.
Residential address or addresses.
Employer name, address and phone number.
School name, address and hone number.
Vehicle information for all vehicles owned or operated
All email addresses and internet identifiers.
Copy of passport.
Immigration status.
Copies of other professional licenses (if any).
Registration is required for sex offender, who has been convicted of any offense defined by the laws of another state, or any foreign government, which is the same as, or equivalent to, any offense which can be registered in the State of Delaware. In the state of Delaware the juvenile sex offenders must register like adults. High risk sex offenders must register for 15 years and moderate sex offenders must register for 25 years. On the other hand, low risk sex offenders must register for life. At the end of the specified registration period, all types of sex offenders must petition Superior Court to be removed from the sex offenders’ registry of the state.
The registered sex offenders have to report any change in their registry information within three days. The change in registry information must be reported in-person at the State Bureau of Identification in Dover or at SBI-North at State Police Troop 2 in Glasgow. Sexual offenders on probation may request that their probation officer update their registry information.
Delaware Sex Offender Registry Search Online
With the exception of high risk sex offenders, under Delaware State law, the moderate and low risk offenders are posted on the state’s public sex offender search website. This online sex offender registry and the state’s public sex offender search website are updated daily. The website offers a free email notification system to the general public of the Delaware State, which will alert the residents when an offender lives, works or goes to school in their area.
